Wine & Me

First, I would like to say hello!! I am Laila Ampy-Thomas. I am a senior in APSC minoring in Leadership and Social Change.I am taking this course to try something new and create a better hosting experience. I love to throw parties and events. So as a result I wanted to take Geography of Wine so I can add wines to dinners and make my guests who are of age to drink experience a more professional party then the regular ones they may be getting at places like TOTs. I also took the class because my best friend loves wine and is very particular about what she drinks but I know nothing about wine and what goes well with it as well as how to taste the differences  in them. She recently moved and I decided this will be a way to feel close to her as well as a fun task to do with her when she visits. I am also very excited to take this class and get closer with friends and family by having dinners and doing official wine tastings. I am also excited to attend or throw my first Paint and Sip while being able to collect points.

Like I stated I have not real experience in wine. I have drunk wine maybe three times total. I have visited a winery for a birthday but was unable to drink at the time. It was a nice view and I seemed to really enjoy the ambiance wine gives off. It seems to have people slow down and take in the moments instead of the typical fast pace of life. I also liked the more natural essence of wine . When I say essence I mean the feels and smells. The slow pace of wine from how it takes time to develop and mature gives me the feeling it is more of an all natural product opposed to liquor. I also believe that liquor has a harsh smell that can sometimes feel as if it is burning your nose and goes down the throat with a burn. While wine seems to go down smoothly smells like fresh flowers.

The wine I did have was a peach wine. I believe it was a Barefoot brand so on the inexpensive side. I really enjoyed this peach wine because it truly tasted like peaches and was sweet like candies. I also had a darker wine with my friend and she stated it was a dry wine and I hated it. I am not entirely sure why I hated it. It just felt as if it was heavier on me and I didnt get the light and airy feeling like I did from the peach wine. I have had wine again maybe three times max and each setting was social so once it was dinner and movies with wine and once my friend was cooking and she was making the dish with wine as asked me to taste the wine prior to adding it in the food. I did not like the wine alone but in the dish it tasted delicious.
